Zora Neale Hurston was a groundbreaking sociologist, writer and Woman at Large.
Lucy Ann Hurston, a professor of Sociology at Manchester Community College, has helped define her aunt's legacy in her award-winning Doubleday book,
Speak, so you can speak again. She also is a criminologist, a fact that will be of more relevance shortly.
Her book is a multimedia tour de force, at a reasonable price point ($29.00) to boot. And that includes an audio CD of contemporary musings and interviews, and replications of many of her works. There is even a copy of her last known work, burned at the bottom: In the custom of the time one's works were often burned upon their expiration from this World. It truly is an unbelievable display: (more on A2).
"It's a book you can play in -- then read," says Hurston, imminently comfortable today before a small but intent crowd at Norwalk Community College's Festival of Words. "We want to keep her accessible to the people."
Outside in the hall the discussion continued amongst ourselves:
"I can't afford your book today, Lucy, because I'm under indictment. For the first time in my life I'm another black man statistic and the worst thing is, the NAACP has lied to help put me there."
Whereupon some spirited discourse was had on the subject, as she is also a criminologist concerned with police protocol. Hell, I barely had time to explain the
lynching I'm getting--click for background summary of how I am indicted for attempted felony extortion against a bad police chief, much less time to tell her about the
7 attempts to silence my speech -- some of which came through the NAACP itself -- so I just emailed her at the College with a relevant post. She replied, as noted below. Then she signed her autograph on the only thing I could afford -- a free library prinout of a recent blog page -- and we continued on our respective ways. She with another printout containing the links to KingCast.net.
Today's tips: Zora Neale wrote for opportunity magazine which morped into Crisis -- the magazine of the NAACP. Also, Eatonville is named after Josiah Eaton, a Quaker who helped blacks learn how to read so that they could incorporate the town in 1888 with all the sharecropper land they got, instead of mismanaging it and going upside down in the ensuing equity battle with the massuh'. Zora Neale was not born there, however. She actually was born in Alabama. Locally those of you not ravaged by the economic forces extant to an indictment may purchase a copy at Bridgeport's Rainyfaye Books -- which will again be hosting spoken word soon! Meanwhile I've effectively spread the word about a nasty "Civil Rights organization" and a beautiful book:
Chris - thanks so very much! I feel in good company on your blog. Please keep me informed at to your situation.

Here's the relevant blog entry.
Now then, against that backdrop I've got some people here who love what I do and that's fine. I've got some who don't understand my diary, and that's fine. Then I've got a handful of outright haters who have troll-rated me, and that's fine, too -- as long as they address the salient issues, which two of the hecklers in a recent session have entirely failed to do:
Here then, are the issues that are directly implicated in a First Amendment forum of free expression like this one:
-The abuse of Willie Toney at the hands of the police;
-The NAACP and Jaffrey Police coming together to get me indicted the next business day after I sent this email directly them to a blog entry critical of both of them covering up said abuse;
-The NAACP not wanting to ruffle feathers up in lilly-white New Hampshire and thereby throwing me under the bus to "protect the image of the NAACP" as noted in this email for reasons that include a failed chapter in Manchester and the fact that Nashua, NH NAACP is sponsored by a paramilitary complex headed by companies like BAE;
-Big business going into my blog and blogger reversing and restoring the wrongly-removed posts about American Tower corporation pursuant to U.S. v. Carmichael, 326 F.Supp.2d 1267 (M.D.Ala. 2004) and other pertinent facts set forth in principled discourse like this:
-Meanwhile Victor Bolden, general counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund sits on the Board of Directors of the Coalition Against Censorship, CAC;
-The country's oldest Civil Rights Organization caught lying under Oath (click on "Her") as I have provided here using an audio recording, for proof;
-The country's oldest Civil Rights Organziation ignoring emails that the Boston City councilor staff and the Department of Labor acted on; resulting in news coverage because said staff thought that a good idea to expose the haters at American Tower;
-Reversing two adverse immigrant workers' compensation appeals and negotiating another overtime case for dozens of employees in Massachusetts (not bad for a defrocked, narcissistic troll, eh?).
-Defeating Bush toady and NLRB recess appointee Peter Kirsanow (not bad for a defrocked, narcissistic troll, eh?) in the appeal of a 37-year employee to whom the country's oldest Civil Rights Organization gave a brush off and its referral attorney committed malpractice.
In sum, I don't really care if some of you think I'm a troll. But if you're going to go that route I suggest you at least take time to address the salient issues, as Lucy and I have.
